Generation of Iran’s Hydroelectric Power Plants down

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Sept. 14

By Elnur Baghishov – Trend:

The electricity generation of Iran's Hydroelectric Power Plants decreased by about 46 percent during 170 days of the current Iranian year (started March 21, 2021), compared to the same period last Iranian year, Executive Director of Iran Water & Power Resources Development Company Hassan Razavi told IRIB, Trend reports.

According to Razavi, Iran's hydroelectric power plants generated about 7.3 gigawatt-hours of electricity over the reporting period, which stood at 10.7 gigawatt-hours in the same period last Iranian year.

“The reason for the decrease in electricity generation by hydroelectric power plants is low rainfall. According to the weather forecast, there will be less rainfall for two months in autumn. But after that, the rainfall will return to normal. Thus, the electricity generation of Iran’s HPPs will be back on track,” he added.

The director noted that Iran Water & Power Resources Development Company has presented a program to the Electric Holding Company of Generation, Transmission & Distribution (TAVANIR) for the electricity generation by the HPPs in different conditions.
