Iran’s TPPs boost electricity generation

The electricity generation of Iran's thermal power plants has increased by 9 percent from the beginning of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2021) to Sept. 15, compared to the same period last Iranian year, Trend reports citing Iran’s Thermal Power Plants Holding Company’s website.

According to the report, Iran's thermal power plants generated more than 173 million megawatt-hours of electricity during the reporting period.

A total of 583 units in 129 thermal power plants operated in Iran within the mentioned period.

In order to increase the generation capacity of 3 thermal power plants in Iran, several projects were implemented over the first six months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through September 22, 2021), and the total generation capacity of Iran’s thermal power plants increased to 69,000 megawatt-hours.

At present, 67 percent of Iran's thermal power plants are owned by the private sector, while 33 percent by the public sector.

The total capacity of Iran's power plants (thermal, hydroelectric, nuclear, renewable and so on) is currently about 85,559 megawatt-hours. About 81 percent of which is accounted for thermal power plants.

The capacity of combined cycle power units is currently 31,179 megawatt-hours (36.4 percent), gas units – 21,992 megawatt-hours (25.7 percent), and steam units – 15,829 megawatt-hours (18.5 percent).
