By Elnur Baghishov – Trend:

Iran is one of the most optimal options for transporting gas due to its geographic position, Deputy Oil Minister and CEO of the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC), Majid Chegeni said, Trend reports citing the company’s website.

The CEO noted that in addition to gas exports, Iran is ready to swap gas from neighboring countries to the north-south and vice versa through pipelines and in the form of liquefied natural gas (LNG).

Chegeni added that Iran's Oil Ministry is pursuing energy cooperation with neighboring countries as a strategy.

He also said that the existing potential will be used to establish and develop relations with neighboring countries in the energy sector, and cooperation will be expanded in various fields.

Iran’s total hydrocarbon reserves are estimated at 1.2 trillion barrels. With available technology and equipment, Iran can extract 340 billion barrels. Thus, 30 percent of the country's hydrocarbon reserves are recoverable, while 70 percent remain underground.
