BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 31. The power generation capacity of Iran's Thermal Power Plants has increased to 71,000 megawatt-hours, Iranian Energy Minister Ali Akbar Mehrabian said, Trend reports citing the ministry.

The minister said that in this regard, 11 new power units have been connected to the country’s electricity network.

Mehrabian also added that one of these units is a gas unit the Arian combined cycle power plant. The first 183-megawatt-hours gas unit of the power plant was connected to the country's electricity network.

According to him, in total, the Arian combined cycle power plant will have the capacity to generate 546 megawatt-hours of electricity if fully operational. The power will have a total of two gas units with a capacity to generate 183-megawatt-hour of electricity each and one steam unit with a generation capacity of 180-megawatt-hours.

The Iranian minister emphasized that about 260 million euros has been spent on the power plant.

Prior to that, a total of 591 units have been operating at 130 thermal power plants in Iran, which had the capacity to generate a total of 70,634 megawatt-hours of electricity.
