BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 5. Gas consumption in residential buildings and commercial facilities in Iran on December 4, increased by 6 percent compared to December 3, Manager of the Dispatching Department of the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) Mohammad Reza Joulaei said, Trend reports citing Shana News Agency.

Joulaei noted that a total of 530 million cubic meters of gas were consumed by residential buildings and commercial facilities in the country on December 4.

“About 64 percent of the total gas consumed in the country accounted for residential buildings and commercial facilities,” he added.

According to him, currently, due to the decrease in air temperature in the country and the increase in gas consumption in residential buildings and commercial facilities, some restrictions on gas supply to various sectors have been applied.

Overall, the gas consumption in Iran amounted to 109 billion cubic meters within the first six months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through September 22, 2022).

Of this, 39.3 billion cubic meters of gas were consumed by residential buildings and small industrial facilities, 26.9 billion cubic meters - by Iran's large industrial facilities (petrochemical plants, steel plants and other plants), and 43.4 billion cubic meters - by Iran’s thermal power plants.

Iran's gas production is currently around 1 billion cubic meters per day. The South Pars gas field accounts for 75 percent of the country's gas production, other gas fields for 20 percent, and oil fields for 5 percent.
