BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 8. Iran plans to drill 35 new wells in the Iran-Qatar joint South Pars gas field (called North Dome in Qatar), Iranian Deputy Oil Minister and the CEO of the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC), Mohsen Khojasteh Mehr told reporters on May 8, Trend reports citing Shana News Agency.
According to Khojasteh Mehr, a program for drilling new wells in the South Pars gas field has been prepared, and a tender is being held in this regard.
The official also added that in order to increase production from the South Pars gas field, well acidizing operations will be carried out at some 400 wells.
"New excavations were conducted to study a new gas reservoir at the South Pars gas field. If the mentioned reservoir is economically profitable, it will be developed," he said.
The South Pars gas field (called North Dome in Qatar) is a joint gas field between Iran and Qatar. The proven reserves of the South Pars Gas Field are estimated at 51 trillion cubic meters of gas, of which 36 trillion are extractable. Iran's share in the field is 14 trillion cubic meters of gas and 18 billion barrels of gas condensate.
