BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 28. Iran is taking a number of steps to develop gas import, export and swap, Iranian Oil Minister Javad Owji said, Trend reports.
The minister noted that Iran has beneficial agreements on gas swap and gas export.
According to Owji, Iran is ready to cooperate with foreign countries in oil, gas and petrochemical sectors.
Owji also added that at present, 550 local start-up companies operate in Iran's oil and gas sector. These companies support Iran's Oil Ministry in various fields, including eliminating the mismatch between gas production and consumption, as well as optimizing gas consumption.
Payin attention to Iran's crude oil and gas condensate exports, the minister said that Iran has increased its export of crude oil and gas condensate remarkable extent. Thus, Iran has sold 87 million barrels of gas condensate in recent years.
As reported, Azerbaijan, Iran and Turkmenistan signed a contract on swap gas supplies in the Turkmen capital on November 28, 2021. The document provided for the supply of Turkmen gas to Azerbaijan through Iran in the amount of up to 1.5-2 billion cubic meters per year. The implementation of the contract began on January 1, 2022.
Azerbaijan's Minister of Economy Mikayil Jabbarov and Iranian Oil Minister Javad Owji signed a memorandum of understanding in Baku on June 3, 2022, according to which it was envisaged to double the supply of Turkmen gas to Azerbaijan through Iran.
Iran stands second in the world for gas reserves, with about 34 trillion cubic meters of gas. Reportedly, Iran's gas production capacity is more than 1 billion cubic meters.
The imposition of sanctions on Iran by the US and Western countries seriously hinders the country’s crude oil exports. After 2018, Iran's crude oil exports were reported to be less than 500,000 barrels per day. Meanwhile, the current government of Iran (which has been in power since August 2021) reports that Iran's daily crude oil exports are 1.3 million barrels.
