BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 25. Pakistan LNG Limited (PLL) will receive its first shipment of liquefied natural gas (LNG or CNG) this year from the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) on February 2-3, the government insider told Trend.

"A gas carrier vessel with 65 thousand tons of LNG will deliver the first shipment of liquefied natural gas to Pakistan this year on February 2-3," the source specified.

Overall, SOCAR may deliver about 700,000 tons of LNG from third countries to Pakistan this year (Azerbaijan itself does not produce LNG for commercial reasons).

"The difficult situation in the Red Sea will not hinder the realization of our commitments to PLL, as we take LNG from producers in Asia itself. Our most important LNG partners include Royal Dutch Shell, one of the world's largest LNG producers with facilities in Qatar and Oman, so there is no problem with the Suez Canal," the source explained.

To note, PLL and SOCAR signed a framework agreement in July 2023 for one-year LNG supplies with the possibility of prolongation, which was an important milestone in bilateral energy cooperation between the two countries.

The framework agreement stipulates that SOCAR may offer PLL one LNG shipment per month, with acceptance by PLL depending on Pakistan's LNG demand and the commercial considerations of the Pakistani company.

This ensures a stable supply of LNG to fulfill Pakistan's growing energy demand at competitive prices.
