BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 12. Caspian Drilling Company (CDC, main shareholder - SOCAR) has purchased a semi-submersible drilling rig (SSDR) "Explorer" from Noble International Oilfield Services Corporation, an informed source told Trend.

According to him, this SSDR will be delivered to Azerbaijan by the end of the year and will be involved in Caspian projects.

"'Explorer' is the fifth generation of similar drilling rigs built in the 2010s. It is similar to the Heydar Aliyev SSDR (generation 5+ floating drilling rig, built-in 2017). Keppel Fels built both of these SSDRs. The Explorer SSDR has experience with operations in the Caspian Sea, as it was once used in this region by the Danish company Maersk, from which it was later bought by Noble," the source informed.

He did not rule out that the Explorer SSDR will be used in Azerbaijani projects managed by bp and SOCAR.

CDC has such large rigs on its balance sheet as the SSDr Heydar Aliyev, Istiglal, and Dede Gorgud.
