The Russian party has informed Azerbaijan that it is likely to reduce or even completely interrupt its electric power export to Azerbaijan in winter period 2006-2007 because of the deficit of its own electric power resources in the south of the country. However, it does not frighten the Azerbaijan part, Yagub Eyyubov, the first Vice-Premier of the Azerbaijani Government claimed today, Trend reports.

According to him, Azerbaijan has its independent energy system that can provide the country and its population with electric power. Therefore, we have already begun a preparation for it, he said.

At the same time, according to the Vice-Premier, Azerbaijan and Russia have a wide spectrum of cooperation, including in the field of energy.

We are buying gas and electric power from Russia, and we would like to keep on this, said Mr. Eyyubov.
