Kazakhstan, Astana / Trend corr. V.Sharifov / The world's volume of emissions from greenhouse gases will be decreased by 20% by 2020 through EU countries' efforts, Adrian van der Meer, the head of the European Commission representative in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan, said during the second Eurasian Energy Forum held by KazEnergy in Astana.
If the US, China, and India will also reduce their greenhouse gases the world figure may reach 30%.
About € 20bln and 300,000 people are engaged in the renewable energy resource sector in the EU.
The EU's experience in renewable energy resources provides the possibility to cooperate with Central Asia and Kazakhstan, which have great wind energy potential, van der Meer said.
It is also planned to improve energy efficiency by 20% by 2020. The level of other types of biofuel and fuels for transport may be increased by 10% by the end of 2007.
Presently, there is a bill being considered that requires a balance of the international sale of biofuel so that export-countries as well as domestic producers can invest these sectors created by an energy-hungry European market.
