Germany and France support Georgia in strengthening its energy sector, said Georgian Finance Minister Ivane Machavariani, Trend reports citing the Ministry of Finance of Georgia.

He made the remarks at meeting with representatives of the German government-owned development bank (KfW) and the French Development Agency (AFD).

According to the minister, along with financial support, Germany and France are important partners of Georgia in expanding cooperation with the European Union.

“Our cooperation with Germany is through KfW and the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ), and AFD,” said Machavariani.

The Minister of Finance emphasized the importance of assistance from the governments of Germany and France in the energy sector and noted that additional financing from KfW and AFD as part of Georgia’s energy sector reform will help strengthen the country's energy sector.

“It is very important for us that Germany and France support the planned energy reforms. In particular, with the help of KfW and AFD, a four-year program was prepared and signed for a total of 49 million euros from the German government and 25 million euros from the French government in 2018.

He thanked the governments of the Federal Republic of Germany and France for supporting Georgia over the years.

“These programs would not have been possible without the efficient and productive work of the local KfW and AFD branches. We hope that this cooperation will continue successfully in the future,” said the minister of finance.
