Azerbaijani parliament discusses amendments to social expenses in state budget

The proposed amendments to the laws "On the 2020 budget of the relevant executive body in charge of social security and protection" and "On the Unemployment Insurance Fund’s budget for 2020" were discussed in the first reading of meeting of Azerbaijani Parliament's Committee on Economic Policy, Industry and Entrepreneurship on August 4, Trend reports referring to the Ministry of Finance.

As Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Protection of Population Anar Aliyev stressed, 238 million manat ($140 million) is expected to be allocated to continue financial support of social protection and social security in connection with the coronavirus pandemic.

Moreover, 136.6 million manat ($80.3 million) will be allocated to continue financial support of state-owned companies in connection with the pandemic. Some 100 million manat ($58.8 million) will be allocated to fund economic support measures related on the background of coronavirus spread, including continuation of financial support for entrepreneurs from the state.

In order to meet the additional demand in the healthcare sector, it’s forecasted to allocate 369 million manat ($217 million) to finance urgent allowance for medical workers working in conditions associated with coronavirus infection, to provide them with necessary medical supplies, equipment and other needs, costs arising for services rendered in quarantine facilities to quarantined persons, and to maintain hospitals involved in stationary medical activities.

The deputy minister also said that the income and expenses of the unemployment insurance fund have been increased. It was proposed to approve budget revenues and expenses for 2020 in the amount of 151.2 million manat ($88.9 million), while earlier this figure made up 128.2 million manat ($75.4 million).

During the meeting, it was decided to recommend the draft laws to the plenary session of the parliament, which will be held on August 5.
