BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 25. Power generation capacity of Iran's thermal power plants reached 74,015 megawatt-hours with the connection of two more power units to the country's electricity network for the 12th month of the last Iranian year (February 20 through March 20, 2023), Deputy Director of Iran’s Thermal Power Plants Holding Company (TPPH), Amir Dudabinejad said, Trend reports citing Iranian Energy Ministry.

The official noted that the mentioned power units are steam units of Urmia TPP and Beset TPP.

Dudabinejad added that currently, there are 615 power units in 134 TPPs operating in the country.

“At present, power generation capacity of Iran's all power plants including, thermal, hydroelectric, nuclear, renewable, and etc. is approximately 91,000 megawatt-hours. Of this, 82 percent accounted for by the country’s thermal power plants,” he said.

According to him, the power generation capacity of combined cycle units is 35,503 megawatt-hours, gas units is 22,683 megawatt-hours, and steam units is 15,829 megawatt-hours.

The deputy director also pointed out that 393 power units with the capacity to generate approximately 49,000 megawatt-hours of electricity belong to the private sector.

Meanwhile, Iran's all power plants generated 359 million megawatt-hours of electricity, over the preceding Iranian year (March 21, 2021 through March 20, 2022). Of the mentioned volume, approximately 95 percent accounted for the country’s thermal power plants.
