Bill on combating piracy considered by parliament

A bill on intellectual property rights and combating piracy is under consideration of the Parliament of Azerbaijan, said a statement by Copyright Agency of Azerbaijan.

A bill on intellectual property rights and combating piracy is under consideration of the Parliament of Azerbaijan, said a statement by Copyright Agency of Azerbaijan.

This legal document is intended to regulate the issue to protect the rights of holders of intellectual property, and determine the administrative and judicial procedures relating to the protection of their interests and preventing law violations.

Agency has approved the plan of measures to harmonize copyright laws in Azerbaijan with the rules of the World Trade Organization and the European Union.

Taking into account the world experience, the Agency has made new proposals related to intellectual property rights and amendments to the Law on Electronic Commerce. Also, a draft decision of the Cabinet of Ministers of Azerbaijan has been prepared to regulate activities on conducting "electronic commerce" with objects of intellectual property rights.

Due to the activities of the Agency in cooperation with public authorities, the piracy rate in Azerbaijan in the field of software dropped from 96 to 88 percent.

Government has approved the initiative of establishing a commission on copyright protection and combating piracy, which will continue to coordinate the fight against piracy with the central and local executive authorities and municipalities and all legal entities regardless of their legal form.
