By Huseyn Valiyev – Trend:

Azerbaijan’s Bakcell and Azerfon mobile operators have merged their networks, a source in the country’s telecommunications market said.

Azerconnect, a joint venture established by Azerfon and Bakcell, is the regulator of the merger project.

At present, Azerconnect is engaged in technical and service maintenance of the two operators’ networks. As the source said earlier, the company was considered as a structure that provides outsourcing services to mobile operators.

The work to merge the two operators’ networks has been ongoing since 2012, and this involves joint use of the resources of base stations, in case when it is necessary. Billing, data services and other services of the operators are still divided.

The merger of Azerfon and Bakcell networks allows operators to significantly increase their resources, because the base stations will complement each other, rendering services to both Nar and Bakcell subscribers.
