By Huseyn Valiyev – Trend:

Deployment of the production of lithium-ion batteries in Azerbaijan requires resolution of issues of legal regulation, Director of the High Technologies Park of the Azerbaijani National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) Vugar Babayev told Trend.

He said that it's necessary to regulate the issue of their transportation and utilization, which is the subject of negotiations with the Ecology and Natural Resources Ministry of Azerbaijan.

"As is known, lithium-ion batteries, as well as lithium-polymer batteries pose a danger to the environment. So the matter of their utilization requires special attention. It is necessary to obtain appropriate licenses for transportation and utilization of lithium-ion batteries. An appropriate legislative base is needed so that we can establish their production in the country," Babayev said.

This issue, according to him, is currently being considered for economic expediency.

The production of lead-alkaline batteries has already been launched on the basis of the Technopark. In addition, the Technopark together with the country's scientific society is considering the possibility of deploying the production of LED lamps.

The High Technologies Park of ANAS is located in the territory of the ANAS pilot plant in the Ahmedli settlement of Baku. The goal of the Technopark is to provide support for innovative ideas untill their full implementation in the final market product and subsequent commercialization.
