By Huseyn Veliyev - Trend:

Express Mail service (EMS) - Azerexpresspost under the postal operator of Azerbaijan – Azerpoct LLC, launched an electronic "Customs Declaration" service, the enterprise told Trend.

The service is available at azems.az, and is based on the Customs Declaration System (CDS) solution of the Universal Postal Union, which provides for the preliminary declaration of the contents of the sent parcels, the number of items in them, their weight, cost, etc.

Users need to fill in a customs declaration, specifying the addresses and contact details of both the sender and the recipient.

This information is entered into the CDS database by the postal operator of the country from which the parcel is sent. The receiving country, such as Azerbaijan, receives an e-declaration over the CDS system. The advantage of this system is that information about the contents of the postal item can be obtained in advance, and it is also duplicated for the Customs Committee of the country.

So far, the number of countries using the system of electronic declarations in international mail is limited. For CDS to be effective, as the source said earlier, it is necessary that it be applied in many countries, since it cannot be used unilaterally.
