The e-signature in the next generation IDs of Azerbaijani citizens will be available for use via a contactless interface, a source familiar with the matter told Trend.

The possibility of providing a new version of using e-signature via mobile phones is being considered.

“The new IDs support contactless interfaces,” the source said. “In practice, this will allow using e-signature by bringing an ID close to a mobile phone. Other options for using e-signature may also be applied.”

The issuance of new IDs started Sept. 1 and about 75,000 IDs have been issued so far, according to the source.

It was earlier reported that three application programs are recorded on the chip of IDs: personal information about the owner, data of two certificates (the first one is an authentication certificate, the second one is for e-signature) and the so-called domestic applications, the functions of which make it possible to automatically update information about the ID holder.

For example, in the case of a change of last name or updating marital status information, this data will be automatically updated by means of special card readers as soon as a citizen applies for a service to an authorized body where these devices will be installed.
