Azerbaijani government speeds up development, digitalization of state projects in 2020

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 27

By Sadraddin Aghjayev – Trend:

The Center for the Development of Electronic Government of Azerbaijan developed projects of both the state level and projects of the ‘government to business’ (G2B) and ‘government to citizen’ (G2C) segment due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Fariz Jafarov, director of the center, said in an interview with Trend.

According to Jafarov, last year, the center developed ‘SMS Permission System’ and the icaze.e-gov.az portal, which allowed all business structures to provide their employees with special permits (for movement during the period of the tight quarantine regime).

Another strategic project at the state level is a project that allows the management of the country's water resources, said the director of the center.

"An information system of electronic water management has been created to calculate the balance of incoming, consumed and used water by various industries," Jafarov said.

Besides, during the pandemic, the center has developed the Cimerlik.az project, through which citizens can register to visit the beaches, he said.

Jafarov also noted that during the Second Karabakh war from Sept. to Nov.2020 and after it, a unified system of the register of Azerbaijani citizens’ property, destroyed by Armenian military formations, has been developed.

"In the late 2020, an electronic document management project was developed for all government agencies. All government agencies can use government document management through a single system. Within the framework of electronic government, hundreds of government agencies have been integrated into the e-Gov portal," he said.

The Center for the Development of Electronic Government provides communication between various government agencies in the process of digital transformation, the development of certain portals, education of citizens, and various events, he reminded.

"Through the Digital Journalism program, the citizens of Azerbaijan, including journalists, were provided with information about state projects and the possibilities of their application," added Jafarov.

The center was founded in 2018 in accordance with the Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s order and operates under the State Agency for Public Service and Social Innovations.
