Georgia will operate regular flights to major int'l airports in South Korea

Creating a legal framework in air transportation between Georgia and the Republic of Korea is a priority, said a source from the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Trend reports with reference to businesstime.ge

During the visit of the government delegation of the Republic of Korea to Georgia, negotiations were held to discuss draft agreement between the governments of the two countries. As part of the negotiations, an agreement was reached according to which Georgia will start operating regular flights to major international airports in South Korea.

The agreement will provide a legal basis in the field of air transport between the two countries, including direct flights between Georgia and the Republic of Korea, strengthen trade and economic relations between the countries and contribute to develop of tourism.

Charter flights between the Republic of Korea and Georgia have been operating since 2018. Korean Air has realized two tourist charter flights between Tbilisi and Seoul carrying 557 passengers.

From January to June 2019, Korean Air carried out four tourist charter flights between Tbilisi and Seoul, and 935 passengers were transported.

The number of visitors from the Republic of Korea to Georgia in recent years has increased sharply. In January-June 2019, 7,185 visitors from the Republic of Korea to Georgia visited Georgia, which is 29.8 percent more than in the same period of 2018 (5,536 visitors). In 2018, 13,278 visitors from South Korea were registered, which is 112.2 percent more than in 2017 (6,257 visitors).
