The State Committee for Tourism Development of Uzbekistan has worked out measures for the development of geo- and industrial tourism at the Kalmakyr mine, Trend reports citing the press service of the Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Complex JSC.
According to the information, Kalmakyr mine is one of the world's largest open-pit porphyry copper mines. Today its length amounts to four kilometers, width - two kilometers, depth - 530 meters. It is noted that annual ore production at the mine reaches 30 million tons.
It is reported that a special observation deck will be built to monitor the working process at the mine. Stationary binoscopes (binoculars) and banners with detailed information about the mine will be installed for tourists.
According to the State Statistics Committee, the number of foreign citizens who visited Uzbekistan for tourism purposes amounted in 2020 to 1.5 million people, which is 77.7 percent less compared to 2019.
Thus, the largest flow among the CIS countries fell on Kyrgyzstan – 508,000 tourists, Kazakhstan – 424,100, Tajikistan – 337,500.
Significantly fewer tourists arrived in Uzbekistan in 2020 from Russia (81,600) and Turkmenistan (60,600).
The smallest number of tourists who arrived in Uzbekistan from the CIS countries in 2020 accounted for Azerbaijan and Belarus, 2,200 and 1,600, respectively.
Speaking of other regions, the largest flow of tourists to Uzbekistan in 2020 was observed from Turkey – 21,000 tourists. It is followed by China – 7,200, South Korea – 6,700, India – 4,700, Ukraine – 3,200, Germany – 2,100, the US and Pakistan each – 1,800, Japan and the UK each – 1,400, France – 1,100, Israel and Moldova each – 1,000, Italy and Iran each – 900 tourists.
