Warehouses to be set up in Iran's Chabahar port

The Deputy Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade announced setting up warehouses in Chabahar port to facilitate the maintenance of basic commodities.

“It has been a while since ships have been evacuated in Chabahar port to unload essential commodities, so the storage of these types of goods is our priority,” said Hossein Modarres Khiabani, Trend reports citing ILNA.

“We need silos, seed oil tanks and cold storage for maintenance basic goods evacuated in Chabahar port,” Khiabani said. “The covered warehouses with capacity of storing 200,000 tons will be set up soon.”

Last week, Chairman of the board of Chabahar Free Trade–Industrial Zone Organization Abdolrahim Kordi said that the organization is in talks with foreign investors for financing the project for the construction of an international airport in the port city.

According to the chairman, the organization is going to invest 5.5 trillion rials (about $131 million) in the first phase of the project, which is expected to be completed within two years, Tasnim news agency reported.

Located in southeastern Iran, the Chabahar Port is the country’s only oceanic port.

Earlier, Iran has awarded the development project of this port to India, the South Asian country committed $500 million to build two new berths in this port, several foreign countries also are eager to contribute to the development of this strategic port.

Back in December 2019, Ports and Maritime Department of Sistan-Baluchestan Province announced that 17 countries expressed willingness to contribute to the development of the Chabahar Port.
