Azerbaijan discloses volume of cargo transported via sea in 2021

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 16

Almost 2.4 million tons of Azerbaijan’s cargo were transported via sea from January through May 2021, which is by 5.2 percent less than from January through May 2020, Trend reports on June 16 with reference to the report of the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee.

The seaports carried out loading and unloading operations in the volume of 3.9 million tons while 3.04 million tons or 96.3 percent of the total volume accounted for transit cargo.

Some 2.2 million tons or 96.4 percent of all cargo transportation in the volume of 3.8 million tons accounted for the total share of goods transited via sea.

Some 5,300 passengers were transported via sea from January through May 2021, which is by 17.2 percent less compared to the same period of last year.

Oil cargo accounted for 39.8 percent of Azerbaijan's cargo exported via sea.

Some 96,700 tons of cargo remained in the ports as of June 1, 2021.

Some 77.2 million tons accounted for cargo transported by all types of transport in Azerbaijan from January through May 2021, 3.1 percent of which accounted for the share of sea transport.
