BAKU, Azerbaijan, Oct. 6

President of Uzbeksitan Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a decree on Uzbekistan's accession to the Intergovernmental Agreement on Dry Ports of the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), Trend reports with reference to the information and legal portal of Uzbekistan.

An agreement on "dry ports" that allows to simplify the procedure for the transportation of goods by sea, was concluded in Bangkok (Thailand) on May 1, 2013.

A "dry port" of international importance means a place within the territory of a country with a logistics center connected to one or more modes of transport, intended for processing, temporary storage, legally required inspection of goods transported in the process of international trade and the performance of applicable customs control functions and formalities.

Ownership of dry ports can be public, private, or public-private partnerships.

The Ministry of Transport of Uzbekistan has been designated as the competent authority for the implementation of the international treaty.

The Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) serves as the United Nations’ regional hub promoting cooperation among countries to achieve inclusive and sustainable development.

The largest regional intergovernmental platform with 53 Member States and 9 associate members, ESCAP has emerged as strong regional think-tank offering countries sound analytical products that shed insight into the evolving economic, social and environmental dynamics of the region.
