BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 23. Cargo transportation by road amounted to 60 million tons, or 56 percent of the total volume of cargo transportation in Azerbaijan from January through July 2023, Trend reports.
According to the State Statistics Committee of Azerbaijan, cargo transportation by road increased by 5 percent over the past year.
At the same time, cargo transportation by road in the private sector increased by 5 percent. The private sector accounted for 76 percent of all cargo transportation by road during this period.
Passenger transportation by road amounted to 911 million people from January through July 2023, which is 17 percent more year-on-year. 95 percent of passengers were transported by buses during the specified period, and 5 percent by taxis and other private carriers.
In addition, 124 million people used the services of the Baku metro (an increase of 8 percent).
Moreover, cargo transportation by all modes of transport in Azerbaijan from January through July 2023 amounted to 128 million tons, which is 6 percent higher year-on-year. Passenger traffic in Azerbaijan exceeded 1 billion people in the reporting period, which is 16 percent higher year-on-year.
