BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 18. Cargo transportation by rail amounted to 12.2 million tons in Azerbaijan from January through August 2023, Trend reports.
According to the State Statistics Committee of Azerbaijan, cargo transportation by rail increased by 2.3 percent compared to the same period in 2022, and passenger transportation increased by 48.6 percent (up to 4.3 million people).
The share of railway transport in the specified period accounted for 8.2 percent of all cargo transportation.
In addition, the number of loaded railway cars per day was 363, and the number of unloaded cars was 418.
In general, the share of rail transport in the specified cargo transportation by all modes of transport amounted to 148.2 million tons in Azerbaijan from January through August 2023, which is 6.5 percent higher than in the same period of 2022. Passenger traffic in Azerbaijan exceeded 1.2 billion people in the reporting period, which is 16 percent higher than in the same period in 2022.
