ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, February 20. Turkmenistan's Demirýollary OJSC national railway carrier has launched a new project to increase its geographical coverage, starting from the nearest countries and reaching Türkiye, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, Trend reports.
According to the Agency for Transport and Communications under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, an increase in geographical coverage is expected through the routes Iran-Turkmenistan-Uzbekistan and Georgia-Azerbaijan-Caspian Sea-Turkmenistan-Uzbekistan, as well as from Russia to the Persian Gulf and India.
The project provides for the organization of international freight transportation according to a schedule, opening routes along the main transit corridors.
Furthermore, the implementation of this project will optimize logistics and reduce the delivery time of goods in the North-South and East-West directions thanks to regular trains following a clear schedule.
Meanwhile, this project became possible due to the modernization of the railway locomotive fleet throughout the route, involving extensive reconstruction and renewal of the rolling stock, resulting in the introduction of modern freight mainline diesel locomotives with increased capacity.
