BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 21. Around 29.2 million tons of oil was extracted from the Tengiz oil field in Kazakhstan, Kevin Lyon, Managing Director of Tengizchevroil, said, Trend reports, citing Kazakh media.

This is equivalent to one-third of the total oil production in Kazakhstan in 2022.

The Tengiz oil field was discovered in 1979 and is one of the biggest and deepest oil fields in the world. The total explored reserves of Tengiz reach 3.2 billion tons, while recoverable reserves range from 890 million tons to 1.37 billion tons.

Kevin Lyon added that the production of oil in Tengiz oilfield increased by 10 percent, compared to 2021. The amount of taxes and duties transferred to the state budget amounted to $14.5 billion.

Lyon concluded by saying that since the start of the millennium, Tengizchevroil achieved a 75-percent reduction in total air emissions per tonne of crude oil produced.

Kazakhstan produced 84.2 million tons of oil in 2022. The share of Tengiz oil field accounted for 29.2 percent, some 12.7 million tons was produced at Kashagan oil field, while 11.3 million tons of oil were extracted from Karachaganak oil field.
