Leading telecom provider in Kazakhstan sees rise in revenue

ASTANA, Kazakhstan, September 6. The revenue of Kazakhstan's largest telecom operator, Kazakhtelecom, increased by 10 percent in the first half of 2023 and exceeded 330 billion tenge, or about $715 million (from 301 billion tenge, or about $653 million, in the first half of 2022), Trend reports.

According to information from Kazakh Telecom, the firm's net profit climbed by 16 percent and reached 58.5 billion tenge, or roughly $127 million (50.5 billion tenge, or roughly $110 million, in the same time in 2022).

The company's EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization) index was 153 billion tenge (roughly $332 million), up 10 percent from the same period the year before. Its profitability as a percentage of revenue remained at 46 percent, which is higher than historical averages for comparable telecom operators.

Both revenue growth in the fixed-line sector and revenue growth in the mobile segment helped to achieve revenue increase in the first half of the current year compared to the same period previous year.

Kazakh Telecom is the largest telecommunications company in Kazakhstan and has the status of a national telecom operator. Kazakh Telecom was founded on June 17, 1994. The main offices are located in the cities of Astana and Almaty; regional offices are in all parts of Kazakhstan. Since the mid-2000s, Kazakh Telecom has consistently occupied high positions in the ranking of the most profitable enterprises in the country, with an annual turnover of tens of billions of tenge.
