ASTANA, Kazakhstan, November 20. Over 11 million passengers were transported by trains of Passenger Transportation JSC (Kazakhstan Railways' subsidiary) from January through October 2023, Trend reports.
Thus, 2 million people were transported on the most popular routes - Karaganda - Almaty, and 2.5 million passengers were transported on the Astana - Shymkent - Almaty route.
The Atyrau-Aktau route carried around 500,000 passengers. Pavlodar - Kostanay, a route connecting two major cities in the country's north, serves around 590,000 people per year.
During the summer, passengers primarily use railway transportation. This summer, 4 million individuals were carried, accounting for 40 percent of all people transported.
In the summer, people choose to travel to Almaty, Aktau, Astana, Turkestan, Shymkent, Balkhash, and Lake Alakol.
Today, 143 trains run across Kazakhstan, of which 105 belong to Passenger Transportation JSC, 28 to private carriers, 10 to other railway administrations.
Moreover, loading on the Kazakhstan Railways network amounted to 213.8 million tons from January through October 2023, which is 2.1 tons higher than in the same period last year.
Over 138 million tons were transported by rail throughout the republic. Exports increased by 7.1 percent to 75.7 million tons.
During the reporting period, over 87.3 million tons of coal were loaded. Including within the republic - 61.2 million tons.
