ASTANA, Kazakhstan, January 15. Kazakhstan has developed a draft Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Kazakhstan and the Ministry of Environmental Protection of Japan on cooperation in the field of environmental protection, Trend reports.

This was stated during a meeting between the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Kazakhstan Yerlan Nysanbayev and Vice Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan Kozuki Ryosuke.

The memorandum provides for cooperation on issues of climate change, waste management, development of green technologies and biodiversity conservation. It has been sent to the Japanese side for consideration.

In addition, during the meeting, Kazakh minister noted that Japan is one of the largest economic partners of Kazakhstan, which has extensive experience in the field of environmental protection and the introduction of environmental innovations.

As the minister said, Kazakhstan is interested in implementing projects jointly with the Mitsubishi company on artificial afforestation. Besides, the country is also interested in attracting large investors in the processing of wood and its waste with the launch of various types of production.

The trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Japan from January through November 2023 exceeded $2 billion, an increase of 16.5 percent compared to the same period last year.

At the same time, the volume of exports amounted to $554.3 million and imports to $1.5 billion.
