Overseas remittances into Kazakhstan fall

ASTANA, Kazakhstan, March 1. About 71,300 transactions worth 20.6 billion tenge (about $45.6 million) were sent to Kazakhstan from abroad through international money transfer systems in January 2024, Trend reports.

The data of the Central Bank of Kazakhstan shows that compared to December 2023, the number of money transfers received decreased by 15.5 percent, the volume of transactions decreased by 12.7 percent.

In January, the largest number of transfers from abroad were made through the Zolotaya Korona (32,140 transactions - 9.3 tenge or about $20.5 million), Western Union (18,890 - 6.7 billion tenge or about $14.8 million), MoneyGram (8,990 - 2.7 billion tenge or about $6 million), Contact (5,960 - 1.4 billion tenge or about $3.1 million) and others (5,340 - 526 million tenge or about $1.16 million).

In terms of the volume of money transfers to Kazakhstan from abroad, the leaders are: Russia: 5.5 billion tenge or about $12.1 million (share 26.9 percent); the US - 2.4 billion tenge or about $5.3 million (share 11.4 percent); South Korea: 2 billion tenge or about $4.4 million (share 11.2 percent); Uzbekistan: 2 billion or about $4.4 million (share 9.7 percent); Norway: 1.6 billion or about $3.5 million (share 8.1 percent).

In addition, the main share of transfers through international systems was carried out in US dollars (share of the total number of transfers: 37.7 percent, share of the total volume of transfers: 51.4 percent) and in Kazakhstani tenge (36.2 percent and 32.4 percent, respectively).
