CIS Heads of State to Assemble in Bishkek

Kyrgyzstan, Bishkek, 22 September / Trend corr. R.Mashadihasanli / The next meeting of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) Council of heads of state and foreign ministers will take place in Bishkek on 9 and 10 October, the Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry told Trend correspondent.

At present Kyrgyz President K.S.Bakiyev is chairing the CIS Council of heads and Foreign Minister E.O.Karabayev ї the CIS Council of foreign ministers.

All heads of Commonwealth countries are expected to participate in the work of summit at the highest level. The agenda of the CIS Council of heads includes 18 draft documents. One of important issues of the agenda will be a draft CIS economic development strategy for period by 2020 and it was designated to assist participant-countries in harmonious development of economic life, stable rise of economy, employment, full use of production capacity and improvement of living conditions of people throughout the CIS member-countries.

The heads of state are expected to adopt a document to determine the power engineering as a key sphere of the Commonwealth countriesї interaction in 2009, cooperation in counteraction of illegal migration in 2009-2011 and announcement 2009 as the Youth year.

The agenda of the CIS Council of foreign ministers includes 26 issues. The issues will be examined at the upcoming meetings of the CIS Council of heads of state and foreign ministers. Meetings will focus on some organizational and protocol issues on awarding Commonwealth Diploma, chairmanship at the CIS and holding next meetings of the CIS Council of heads and foreign ministers.
