BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 23. The loan portfolio of the EBRD (European Bank for Reconstruction and Development) projects in Kyrgyzstan amounted to 169 million euros as of December 31, 2022, Trend reports via the EBRD.

The bank’s loan portfolio is assigned for the implementation of 74 projects.

According to the EBRD, the major part of the investment portfolio (69 percent or 117 million euros) focuses on sustainable infrastructure, 17 percent (28 million euros) – on industry, commerce, and agriculture, and 14 percent (24 million euros) – on financial institutions.

In total, the bank has invested over 881 million euros in Kyrgyzstan’s 219 projects.

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has been cooperating with Kyrgyzstan since 1992.

The EBRD in Kyrgyzstan focuses on fostering sustainable growth, enabling SMEs, promoting the sustainability of public utilities, and strengthening the financial sector.

According to the Secretary General of the EBRD, Kazuhiko Koguchi, the main approach to combat climate change and to incite green development of the country is its hydro potential, which is being used only for 10 percent at this point, for the lack of investment flows.
