BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 29. Kyrgyzstan and Russia are planing to achieve an agreement on the supply of electricity to Kyrgyzstan, Deputy Minister of Energy Sabyrbek Sultanbekov told local reporters, Trend reports via Kyrgyz media.

He made the remark following the 24th meeting of the Intergovernmental Kyrgyz-Russian Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technical and Humanitarian Cooperation.

According to him, Kyrgyzstan plans to import 875 million KWh of electricity from Russia, during the autumn and winter period of 2023 and 2024.

He added that the cost of the electricity imports will be established following the negotiations, the delivery time is currently being specified.

In January 2023, the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan stated that it was planned to import up to 2.2 billion kWh of electricity this year.

Meanwhile, according to the State Statistical Committee, Kyrgyzstan imported 138 million KWh of electricity in January 2023 from Kazakhstan, which is a decrease of 16 percent over 165 million kWh in January 2022.

In general, the country imported 2.8 billion kWh of electricity in 2022, which is an increase of 62 percent compared to the indicators of 2021 (1.6 billion kWh).

Kyrgyz official statistics did not provide data for the imports of electricity from Russia in 2022.
