BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 6. The Kyrgyz Temir Jolu national railway company transported 8 million tons of cargo in 2022, which is an increase of 361,500 tons compared to 2021, Trend reports with reference to the company.
One of the factors contributing to the increase in freight transportation is the acquisition of 100 freight wagons by the company in 2021 and 2022, which were put into operation immediately after arrival in Kyrgyzstan.
At the same time, the Kyrgyz railway company transported 268,687 passengers last year, of them 254,415 passengers were transported in domestic communication and 14,272 passengers in international communication. On June 6, 2022, the company resumed operation of international passenger trains that were earlier suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The company added that last year, some 17,319 km of railway track were repaired, 11 passenger cars underwent major repairs, and 239 cars underwent depot repairs, including 12 passenger cars and 227 freight cars.
Meanwhile, according to the statistical data of the Eurasian Economic Commission, passenger transportation in Kyrgyzstan amounted to 528 million people in 2022, which is 4 percent more than 504 million of people in 2021.
The passenger transportation via railway transport in the country amounted to 300,000 people in the reporting period.
