BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 24. Russian enterprises increased exports of softwood and hardwood timber to Tajikistan by 40 percent, or 1.4 times, year-on-year from January through February 2023, Trend reports citing Roslesinforg, the Russian forest accounting organization.
During the period, Tajikistan imported 67,000 cubic meters of softwood and hardwood timber from Russian enterprises.
Tajikistan, along with Hong Kong, ranked third in terms of lumber imports from Russia in the first two months of 2023. China was the main buyer of softwood and hardwood timber from Russia, accounting for 63 percent of total Russian exports, followed by Uzbekistan at 10.1 percent.
According to the Statistical Agency of Tajikistan, the country imported wood and wood products worth $33.1 million from January through February 2023, which is 1 percent less than in the same period of 2022.
Meanwhile, as Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said, the trade turnover between Russia and Tajikistan increased by 18 percent year-on-year, reaching $1.5 billion in 2022, which is a record high for the past twenty years.
