DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, November 6. A total of 804,496 tons of potatoes were harvested in Tajikistan as of October 1, 2023, which is an increase of 29,640 tons compared to the same date in the previous year, Trend reports.
According to data from Tajikistan's Ministry of Agriculture, potatoes were cultivated on 58,566 hectares across the country as of October 1, which is 2,474 hectares more than in the start of October 2022.
Tajikistan is on track to harvest around 1.1 million tons of potatoes in 2023, with harvesting operations still ongoing.
The country cultivates 15 different potato varieties. Potatoes are farmed predominantly in the Rasht valley, as well as in the districts of the Khatlon region, the Sughd region, the Gissar valley, and the Gorno-Badakhshan autonomous region, with the Rasht region yielding the best quality.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture in Tajikistan, the value of agricultural production in the country reached 43.809 billion somoni ($3.9 billion) from January through September 2023, which is am increase of 3.192 billion somoni ($288 million) compared to the same period in the previous year.
