DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, April 12. The World Bank (WB) has provided $50 million to Tajikistan under the Strengthening Critical Infrastructure against Natural Hazards Project (SCINHP) as of the end of 2023, Trend reports.

According to the WB, the initiative, running from 2018 through 2024, supported the establishment of a National Crisis Management Center for the Committee of Emergency Situations and Civil Defense as well as contributed to seismic microzoning in Dushanbe.

SCINHP has reinforced 27.5 km of river embankments, 18 bridge designs have been guided by multi-hazard disaster and climate change risk assessments, and 20 critical road sections have been renovated.

Moreover, under the project, the Tajikistan government has formulated and implemented a strategy aimed at financial protection against disasters.

Between 2015 and 2023, the WB has provided over $300 million in support to build resilience in Tajikistan through the International Development Association (IDA).

Tajikistan became a member of the WB in 1993 and joined the IDA in 1994.
