BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 20. Turkmenistan plays the role of an important regional transport and transit hub, Trend reports citing Orient news.
This is stated in the report of the Chairman of the Turkish International Transporters Association (UND) Alper Ozel.
The report notes that the result of Turkmenistan's closure of borders due to the pandemic was the formation of congestion on the Georgian-Turkish and Georgian-Russian checkpoints. The downtime of goods at the checkpoint reached more than 30 days.
"This proves the transit importance of Turkmenistan, so this country as an alternative transit hub can become a link between China and Europe. To do this, it is necessary to continue taking steps to create and expand an alternative transport corridor through Turkmenistan," the report says.
The document notes that the UND expects the opening of other checkpoints in Turkmenistan, such as the Turkmenbashi International Seaport.
