Slovakia sees the opportunities in the comprehensive cooperation with Uzbekistan in water management and forestry spheres, the Ministry of Economy of Slovakia told Trend.

According to the Slovak ministry, in connection with the program of modernization and diversification of industry and infrastructure development in Uzbekistan, there is room for Slovak companies operating in the field of technology and equipment supply.

“We, therefore, recommend offering and exporting, in particular, such goods and equipment that are absolutely necessary for the current development, construction and modernization of the Uzbek economy in terms of the government priorities,” the ministry said.

According to the President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan, Adham Ikramov, the automotive, agricultural and textile industries are key economic areas with the high potential for future cooperation.

“These are the sectors which have in Slovakia quite a long tradition mainly in providing technologies and suitable solutions that were significantly present also in the foreign trade between Slovakia and Uzbekistan in the past,” the ministry noted.

Also, the ministry added that Slovakia sees the opportunities in comprehensive water management and forestry as well, emphasizing the need to intensify the dialogue through the Intergovernmental Commission for Economic Cooperation.

It is noted that the first meeting was scheduled to take place in Tashkent in June 2020, but was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“Within the context of identifying concrete steps that could contribute to the strengthening of mutual relations, the opening of a residential embassy or a trade office of Uzbekistan in Slovakia could be one of the instruments that would help achieve a more intensive cooperation too,” the ministry stressed.
