BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 6. Uzbekistan has extended VAT exemption for the import of meat, potato and other products until the end of 2022,Trend reports via the press service of the Uzbek media outlets.

On May 5, the president of Uzbekistan signed the law "On making additions and changes to the Tax Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan."

According to the document, for the period from October 10, 2021 to December 31, 2022, meat (beef, lamb), live animals (cattle and sheep) and products made of their meat, as well as their import into the territory of Uzbekistan is exempt from value added tax.

Previously, Uzbekistan extended VAT exemption for the import of meat, potato and other products until April 30.

The parliament of Uzbekistan (Oliy Majlis) on February 3 at its 23rd plenary session approved a law amending the Tax Code, providing for the extension of value added tax benefits for a number of food products.

In 2021, the legislative chamber of Uzbekistan adopted a bill for the import and sale of meat products to the country to be exempt from VAT until the end of the year. The main goal of this bill was to reduce the cost of meat products in Uzbekistan. The document proposed to exempt from VAT the import and sale of meat products, animals, as well as potatoes, and frozen fish from October 10 to December 31 on the territory of Uzbekistan.
