BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 19. The Islamic Development Bank (IDB) will allocate $1.6 billion by the end of the year for the implementation of projects in Uzbekistan, Trend reports via the press service of Uzbekistan’s president.

This became known following a meeting between the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and the President of the Islamic Development Bank Muhammad bin Sulaiman Al Jasser.

Currently, in Uzbekistan, together with the IDB, projects are being implemented to modernize the housing and communal infrastructure, develop rural areas, healthcare, education, water management, entrepreneurship and others worth $1.2 billion.

During the talks, issues of further expansion of cooperation were discussed, a separate program was adopted, which provides for the approval by the bank of financing of major projects and programs by the end of the year.

This will be an important step towards bringing relations with the IDB to a qualitatively new level and adopting a country cooperation program for 2023-2026.

In addition, the importance of organizing the activities of a full-fledged representative office of the bank in Tashkent, introducing new financing instruments was noted.

An exchange of views took place on issues of cooperation in the implementation of important regional transport infrastructure projects, environmental programs in the Aral Sea region, as well as the provision of humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan and its socio-economic recovery with the support of a separate IDB trust fund.
