BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 26. The European Investment Bank (EIB) has a number of projects under implementation in Uzbekistan, a source at the EIB told Trend.

According to the Bank, the list of EIB operations in Uzbekistan includes a water framework loan in the amount of 100 million euros aimed at support improvements in water supply, as well as wastewater collection and treatment.

Another loan in the amount of 100 million euros includes the support for energy efficiency designed as a credit line, aimed at the implementation of energy-efficiency investments of small and medium-sized enterprises, mid-cap companies and private sector entities in Uzbekistan.

Moreover, the EIB has provided a loan in the amount of 43.7 million euros for 100 MW solar photovoltaic (PV) plant located in Samarkand region promoted by French Total Eren.

Among the projects under development, there are two energy projects planned to be implemented in Uzbekistan, which include the roll-out of auctions for solar energy projects, which was released in November 2022.

The EIB also plans to allocate a loan for district heating project in Uzbekistan. This project was released on July 29, 2019, and has been approved already. Moreover, also plans to provide Uzbekistan with COVID-19 Public Healthcare loan. The project was released in July 2020, and is still waiting for the appraisal.

"We will continue to explore opportunities in engaging in access to finance support for the private sector in Central Asia, while supporting as much as possible their link to more green activities and practices," the source at the EIB said.
