BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 17. President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev on May 17 received a delegation of the EU headed by Valdis Dombrovskis, Executive Vice President of the European Commission for An Economy that Works for People, said on the sidelines of the summit of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in Uzbekistan's Samarkand, Trend reports with reference to the press service of the President of Uzbekistan.
Issues of expanding mutually beneficial cooperation between Uzbekistan and EU institutions, including in the regional format, were discussed.
Dombrovskis conveyed to President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev sincere greetings from President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and President of the European Council Charles Michel.
Support was expressed for the ongoing program of irreversible democratic transformations and socio-economic reforms in New Uzbekistan.
During the meeting, the intensification of contacts and productive exchanges, the growing dynamics of cooperation in the field of trade, investment, green economy, energy, agriculture, transport, and logistics, as well as in the cultural and humanitarian sphere were noted with satisfaction.
Uzbekistan's trade turnover with the EU countries has increased by 65 percent since the beginning of the year. The portfolio of ongoing and promising projects with leading European companies and banking and financial institutions exceeds 20 billion euros.
Moreover, the importance of continuing an intensive dialogue with EU institutions, primarily on the economic track, was highlighted.
