TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, September 5. Repairs at Uzbekistan’s hydroelectric power stations led to increase of electricity generation, Trend reports.
Uzbekhydroenergo JSC has completed modernization and repair work at two hydroelectric power plants of the Chirchik-Bozsu cascade, which allowed for significant increase in their capacities and generation of electricity.
The Akkavak-1 hydroelectric power plant in particular, built 70 years ago and supplying Uzbekistan’s city of Chirchik, increased its capacity by five megawatts due to major recent repairs. The station is predicted to generate 213.8 million kWh of electricity per year.
Earlier this year, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan discussed the implementation of the Kambarata-1 Hydropower Plant project. In the establishment of a joint venture among these countries, it is proposed that Kyrgyzstan will hold 34 percent of the shares, while Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan will collectively own 66 percent, with 33 percent each.
As per data provided by Uzbekistan's Ministry of Energy, 31.9 billion kWh of electricity was produced in Uzbekistan from January through May 2023, which is 1 billion kWh or 3.3 percent more than in the same period last year. Overall, 74.3 billion kWh of electricity was produced in Uzbekistan in 2022.
