Uzbekistan calls for creation of railway administrations within OTS

TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, November 17. Uzbekistan’s Minister of Transport Ilkhom Makhkamov has put forward the idea of establishing railway administrations within the framework of the Organization of Turkic States and determining its main functions, Trend reports.

The remark was made during the minister’s speech at the 7th meeting of the transport ministers of the member countries of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) within the framework of the International Transport and Logistics Corridor: Impulses of Development from Zangilan event held in Azerbaijan's Zangilan.

Besides the establishment of the railway administration, Makhkamov has made a number of other proposals aimed at developing cooperation in the field of transport between the member countries of the organization.

In particular, he noted the need for:

acceleration of the process of digitalization of customs clearance procedures for goods and shipping documents through projects such as E-Permit, E-TIR, and E-Transit

creating favorable conditions for international road transport by simplifying visa procedures, reducing various fees and charges, and increasing the number of quotas of permit forms.

Meanwhile, the 7th meeting of the transport ministers of the member countries of OTS is held with the joint organization of the special representative office of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Jabrayil, Gubadli, and Zangilan districts, which are part of the East Zangezur Economic Region, the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport, the State Customs Committee, and the Institute of Economics of the Ministry of Science and Education of Azerbaijan.

The conference's goal is to facilitate debates between the public, corporate, and academic sectors about the development and extension of trans-regional transportation corridors, as well as foster cooperation among stakeholders.
