TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, November 24. The Committee for the Development of Competition and Consumer Protection of Uzbekistan has decided to reduce the daily limit for the purchase of RON-80 gasoline on the commodity exchange, Trend reports.
Thus, the maximum volume of purchases of this type of fuel produced by the Bukhara Oil Refinery is reduced from 10 to 4 tons for one buyer.
The Committee was also instructed to ensure the sale of at least 80 percent of gasoline in lots of 1 ton; the remaining volumes are 55 and 60 tons, respectively.
Meanwhile, in August 2023, the Committee for the Development of Competition and Consumer Protection set a daily limit for the purchase of RON-80 gasoline in the amount of 5 tons, which, in combination with other measures, led to a decrease in gasoline prices and some stabilization of the market. However, in October, this limit was raised to 10 tons.
The total capacity of Uzbekistan's oil refineries amounts to 10 million tons. In recent years, the country has regularly experienced an acute shortage of gasoline and other types of petroleum products. According to official statistics, oil production in Uzbekistan increased by 1.8 percent to 787,800 tons by the end of 2022, gasoline production was up to 1.26 million tons (+11.5 percent), and diesel fuel production was up to 800,100 tons (+5.9 percent).
Uzbekistan’s large enterprises produced 1 million tons of gasoline from January through September of 2023.
