TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, December 11. Uzbekistan has proposed to the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) to include large Uzbek multimodal logistics centers in the Intergovernmental Agreement on Dry Ports, as well as assign them the status of international dry ports, Trend reports.

The issue was discussed during the meeting of experts on Dry ports and multimodal transport of the ESCAP attended by Director of the Center for the Study of Problems of Transport and Logistics Development at the Ministry of Transport Bekzod Kholmatov.

During the meeting, the ESCAP was provided information on the conducted study of 15 large multimodal logistics centers of Uzbekistan for compliance with international standards.

Following the presentation, a corresponding proposal was made to include them in an annex to an international agreement in order to integrate them into the international logistics system.

In 2021, Uzbekistan joined ESCAP’s Intergovernmental Agreement on Dry Ports.

An agreement on dry ports, that allows for simplification of the procedure for the transportation of goods by sea, was initially concluded in Thailand’s Bangkok on May 1, 2013.

The Ministry of Transport of Uzbekistan has been designated as the competent authority for the implementation of the international treaty.
